Learn how to protect your family
if the unthinkable happens
Estate Planning
A comprehensive estate plan ensures your wishes will be honored and your family will be protected, whatever the future holds.
Wills
A Last Will and Testament is the cornerstone of any estate plan, naming your beneficiaries and the guardian of your minor children.
Trusts
A revocable living trust can help your family avoid probate and give you greater control over how your assets will one day be distributed.
Incapacity Planning
A Durable Power of Attorney and Medical Directive will authorize your loved ones to act on your behalf if you become incapacitated.
Probate
Probate is the court-supervised process of settling an estate after death. Understanding it can help you plan ahead and spare your family unnecessary difficulty.
Intestacy
Dying without a will means state law decides who inherits your estate. Understanding intestacy laws makes clear why having a plan matters so much.
Intestacy
Texas and North Carolina have strict rules about who inherits when someone dies without a will, which may not reflect your wishes or protect the people you love.
Probate
Settling an estate after a loved one dies can be overwhelming. I help Texas and North Carolina families navigate probate with clarity and compassion.
Trusts
The right trust depends on what you're trying to accomplish. I help clients in Texas and North Carolina create trusts that accomplish their goals.
Estate Planning
A good estate plan does more than distribute your property. It protects you and your family if illness or injury leaves you unable to speak for yourself.
Wills
A valid Will lets you decide who will inherit your property, who will care for minor children, and who will be in charge of settling your affairs after you die.
Incapacity planning
Incapacity can happen without warning at any age. Planning reduces the likelihood of court involvement and removes stress your loved ones may feel in times of crisis.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions,
clear answers.
Do I need a will if I don't have a lot of assets?
Yes. A Last Will and Testament is important regardless of the size of your estate. Without one, state law determines who inherits your property and, if you have minor children, who raises them. A will lets you make those decisions yourself.
What is the difference between a will and a trust?
A will takes effect only at death and must go through probate. A revocable living trust becomes effective immediately, allows your estate to transfer to your heirs without probate, and can provide instructions for managing your assets if you become incapacitated. Both documents serve important purposes, and many estate plans include both.
How does a web-based law firm work?
We communicate through a secure client portal, phone, and video conference — whichever is most convenient for you. You'll never need to come into an office. All documents are shared electronically, and I'll guide you through the signing process with clear instructions tailored to your state's requirements.
How much does estate planning cost?
Rania Combs Law charges flat fees based on the specific documents and complexity of your plan. You'll receive a written fee quote before any work begins, so there are never any surprises. You can view general fee information on our fees page.
What states do you serve?
Rania Combs is licensed to practice law in Texas and North Carolina. She is able to assist clients throughout both states and meets with clients in Houston, Texas by appointment.
What documents make up a complete estate plan?
A comprehensive estate plan typically includes a Last Will and Testament, a Durable Power of Attorney, a Medical Power of Attorney, and an Advance Directive or Living Will. Depending on your circumstances, a revocable living trust may also be appropriate. Rania will discuss which documents best suit your needs during your consultation.
